WORLD READ ALOUD DAY - Vlog: ENCOUNTERS by Elaine AM Smith

9 March 2011 is World Read Aloud Day: a celebration of the written word, shared!

This event is organised by LitWorld and, in their words, “is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all people." This organisation advocates for every child’s right to literacy, safe education, and access to books and technology.  The aim of World Read Aloud Day is to encourage everyone to participate in an international celebration; to motivate children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words and stories.

Whether you are reading poetry, stories or incredible non-fiction, this is the day to celebrate hearing the written word read aloud. So, with a production team of one I recorded and uploaded the first chapter of ENCOUNTERS, my MG SF novel. After about twenty takes embarrassment but no shame, this is as good as it got. Yes, I know there are two mistakes but Man Utd lost the game and my son wanted to bounce a long with his music next door.

There are, however, 774 million people who cannot appreciate the world of difference that being able to read makes possible. If knowledge is power then knowledge combined with imagination is unstoppable.

HAPPY WORLD READ ALOUD DAY!

  1. We often take reading for granted, but it really shouldn't be. Reading is a wonderful and amazing gift. It's something worth celebrating and sharing.

    Hi Summer
    Thank you Summer *blushes
I couldn't believe how many times I got distracted or someone interrupted and I had to begin again :D This version was a case of "whatever, it will have to do" Making the video devoured Sunday.

  5. Hi Ali
It started as a lot of fun - but without editing facilities it became almost as much of a pain as Man Utd not having a solid mid-field ;)

  6. Tim is still asleep so I can't click to hear you reading out loud. But wanted to say, we always read out loud. It's the best. Even at night, Tim will read out loud before bed. It's so great.

Happy Reading. Happy Writing and ... Happy Eating.
