SAVE TEN TRACKS FROM THE WORLD OF MUSIC - BRING ON THE ALIENS, THAT'S GOT TO BE EASIER ;)

I knew I was going to have trouble when  Alex J Cavanaugh created the TOP TEN COUNTDOWN; I'm going to find it hard to narrow a world of music down to just ten songs. There are some artists where I'd find it hard to narrow my favourites down to only ten tracks.

They all tell a story I want to write.

Songs that made me cry because a Top 10 is just not big enough, include:
GENE - Save me, I'm Yours
SOPHIE ZELMANI -  I'll Remember You
THE SMITHS - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
ELBOW - The Bones of You
THE CANDYSKINS - Car Crash
HARD-FI  -  Cash Machine
MAXIMO PARK  - Books From Boxes
PINK - Please Don't Leave
LA ROUX - Tiger Lily
No room for LINKIN PARK? In Pieces. Crawling. Breaking the Habit!

Here are my 10 favourite songs:

10  THE CURE  - Love Cats

9  FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE - Howl

8  MUSE  - Super Massive Black Hole

7  ARCTIC MONKEYS - 505

6  KILLERS  - Mr Brightside

5  LIGHTENING SEEDS  - Pure

4  MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS - Shampain

3  JAMES  - Sit Down

2  NIRVANA  - Smells Like Teen Spirit

1  NO DOUBT  - Don't Speak

Late posting. I went to view a school for next year's proper job (unless I'm very lucky.)
I'm looking forward to seeing what you like too.

  1. I like a few songs on your list. And a list of songs that make you cry - clever idea. 10 is not enough!

  3. Hi Theresa
If I could have squeezed them in as 10a, 9a, 8a etc I would have been happier ;)

Love the edginess of Muse and La Roux really hit me with Tiget Lily. Adding these to my playlist for sure. Thanks!

  16. That Muse song is great and I too love Sophie Zelmani's I'll Remember You. I'd completely forgotten about James and if I was going to put a No Doubt song on my list, it would definitely be "Don't Speak"

  17. I love NO Doubt and should have mentioned them in my post. And of course, The Killers. I heart Mr. Brightside too!
Thanks for the Enter Shikari recommendation, I searched it and am listening to it now. Great guitars!

  18. Arctic Monkeys! You can't believe how happy that makes me. I love the Arctic Monkeys so much I couldn't dream of just picking just one but 'A Certain Romance' and 'Old Yellow Bricks' were up there. And Florence and the Machine is pretty stellar too

  20. Ah, Nirvana. See, every time I visit a blog on the list I see so many awesome songs I would have loved to post.

Peace talks with aliens would definitely be easier than choosing only 10 . .

  22. Hi Alex
I haven't made it as far as the Nirvana fans - I'm on round two today :)

    Hi Budd
Don't Speak and Runnin are my absolute favs from NO DOUBT. I'm glad you like Gwen's voice too.

    Hi Diane
Cure are atmospheric - Robert had the power to make edgy hard ;)

    Hi Dezmond
Muse or Florence could sing the weather forecast and I'd love it ;)

    Hi Melissa
The whole of the La Roux album is great but Tiger Lily just has something that is gripping.

    Hi Lynda
The Cure have more gems that last the generation and time test. ;)

    Hi Jamie and Donna
Florence and the Machines have such an amazing sound. I love them. They are amazing live.

    Hi Jemi
:) You have to walk on the wildside.

    Hi VR
No Doubt have a few really great songs in there lists. :)

    Hi Lindsay
It has been amazing seeing so many music choices on one day. :)

    Hi LG
Narrowing down to 10 was a killer; I had at least 5 goes. Everytime a song fell over the edge of the list I got so frustrated. There were others that didn't make it onto the post - tragic ;)

    Hi Heleine
    Snap! ;)

    Hi Kelly
Enter Shakari is a local band who have a big small-following. I've seen them at festivals; they are lively live :)

    Hi Lindz
Arctic Monkeys, Hard Fi and The Enemy - they are great in a shuffle ;)

    Hi Lee
Ill be along to check it out although I'm only halfway through the Blogfest list.

    Hi Donna
This task was hard - I knew World Peace would be harder but negotiating with aliens would equal the job ;)

    Hi Jennie
Yeah! Muse were so hard to limit to one I love at least one track on every CD so much I wear out the grooves ;)

  23. Oh, I love Pink, The Killers, and No Doubt!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Love your list! A couple I don't know - but will youtube and check out. I'm finding so many that I should have used. Oh, then my list would be at about 1000 ;)

  25. Hi Kelly
I love good tunes and distinctive voices :)

    Hi Tara
There have been so many songs on the lists that I know and love but even more I've never heard of. That is a learning experience.

  26. Florence & The Machine is a great CD-one of my favorite "new band" finds!

The Lightning Seeds are another band (some blogs listed Catherine Wheel) that I loved and owned a few CD's back in the early 90's and must have sold them off. I need to revisit them.

Muse simply rock! I got into them with "Black Holes..." and went back and glommed up their back catalog, and love "Resistance"

    Larry

    Good list!

  29. Hi Deniz
Gene and Embrace had such a beautiful sound. I always thought Gene were as vampire obsessed as I was - loved the lyrics. :)
