EMPHASIS - A to Z CHALLENGED

Each post for the A to Z Challenge is the challenge I set for myself.

Your eye is drawn into and across
the image, and the words in
the sentence.
E is for EMPHASIS

E is the Emphasis because as the eye scans, the sentence is building up to the final word.

Knights, who want to survive in battle, sharpen their blades, practise their skills, and never turn their backs on an enemy.

HAL LONGLEAT AND THE TROUBLE WITH TRUTH

All day, the wind had cut through the courtyard and bitten at Hal until hands were red and raw. When shaking didn’t work, he cupped his hands and blew to warm his fingers. Then, he chewed and rubbed the top of the short nail against his tooth.

Could YOU have been gifted with the ability to identify and eliminate weak and brittle phrases from your work? To the uninitiated, these interlopers look like quality imagery.

CLICHÉ RAIDERS: REWRITE!

•           eagerly devour
•           ear to the ground
•           easier said than done
•           eat your heart out
•           economical with the truth
•           empty nest, empty nesters, empty nest syndrome
•           eternal regret/ eternal shame, to my
•           every little helps
•           every stage of the game,
•           explore every avenue

FOR E, I CHOSE EMPHASIS. WHAT IS THE SUBJECT OF YOUR E POST?

  2. Definitely the ability to eliminate the weak words or phrases would have it's good and bad effects. These weak phrases sometimes makes us realize that we can't just be slave to them. We need to be strong . Or when eliminated they will not gloom us anymore.
    Keep posting.

    1. Hi Salvwi
The obvious image is never as profound as the intimate and unique one that grows from the character and their situation. I enjoyed reading your emotion poetry.

    1. Hi Rhonda
I enjoyed your travel tips as they are full of wisdom and humour. Around here, I get into trouble for wanting to pack the contents of the medical chest every time we head for the airport ;)

  4. I never really think about the science of my writing, which I probably should do more often!

    1. Hi Trisha
I don't think about the technical details of my writing which is why - my E sentence is missing a comma and - I made it a target.
