WRITING IS A MOUNTAIN OF EFFORT - anyone for mountaineering?

At the sloping start, you race words onto paper and chase  word counts higher. The lower peaks are conquered, when the theoretical events turn into daring acts of selflessness and caring on the page.

Progress up the mountain continues. But with the excitement comes other feelings: exhaustion, repetitive strain and doubt.

When climbing this mountain, you have to take time to enjoy everything you achieve. Climbing with the word count. Chilling on the plateaus, making friends with individuals who share the same passion.

But the mountain is a difficult place to be. Once the wip achieves manuscript status, over the ridge lies the harder path: the one to the pinnacle called Published.

Armed with maps and guides provided by experts and those who have trodden the path before, seek out the the trusty guide and keep battling on up the hill.

I'm climbing.

Keeping focussed.

Honing my skills.

Climbing.

How about you?

One unexpected surprise: over on Ali Cross' Blog I won a signed copy of Rick Riordan's Book The Lost Hero :)  Now I just need to find a non-fictional one ;)
