2012, THE SUMMER OF RAIN, RAINBOWS AND FIFTY SHADES OF GREY image from Wikimedia |
I have been a bad blogger of the absent-without-leave kind. The trouble is...I’m still not sure how it happened.
EXCUSE 1
The academic year ended, in the Smith-family semi we were
all bustling about getting under each other’s feet and being busy, busy, busy
and I still found time to blog. Then we had to put a box of this-year’s-important-stuff
into the loft, trouble was you can’t sit on a loft hatch to make it close
because gravity is a bit unforgiving in that direction.
We had no choice but to do something.
There were lies and lives and ghosts of things we were up
there–along with the regular family skeletons.
We did:
digging
delving
laughing
crying
fighting
sighing
sorting
moving
recycling
archiving
and tidying up the remains of jelly sweets from when
sleepovers in the loft had been one of the absolutely everythingest experiences
on the planet (not for me, personally, you understand.)
Dust, crap and catharsis later we had contractors in to re-board
the whole thing and we have a huge space at the top of the ladder. There’s even
enough room to have a room up there ;)
RIGHT NOW… I AM WRITING.
During this summer, I hope you have found some days where
the weather made you smile rather than look for shade or shelter. I hope you had
enough time to think, plan, write, or to find a different way to wallow in words.
This
summer, it rained when I was bar-b-qing, on my walks, when I was in the pool
and at the festival–to the extent that I was up to the tops of my trainers in
mud. However, I’ve been basking in the Olympic glow, I like to think of it as
the summer of rain, rainbows… and shades of grey.
HAVE YOU HAD FUN THIS SUMMER?
Sounds like you've been having a busy summer!
ReplyDeleteHi GE
DeleteThank you, I haven't got as far as grovelling to explain the full extent of how busy my holiday has been.
I hope you had a great summer too.
I bet you feel refreshed just having a good 'clear out!' The roof space was one of the things we were going to tackle over the summer but didn't get there. In fact I was only saying yesterday I haven't done half the things I was going to do this summer, where does the time go!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you didn't get your loft space cleared. My partner has plans to create an artist's studio up there. I'm about his plan to throw pots ;)
DeleteWe had three projects, two holidays and a spoon-shaped wind chime in the peartree/hanging basket ;) keeping us busy - and stopping me from blogging.
I think time moves at variable rates during the long break, at first it moves really slowly, then it gathers a bit of momentum and, just when you need it most, time hits fast forward and the holidays are gone.
