Lying is one of the most common wrong acts.
Most people would condemn lying unless there's a good reason for it.
It has been said that lying is an unavoidable part of human nature.
The liar:
communicates information
intends to deceive or to mislead
believes that what they are 'saying' is not true
The lie:
does not have to give false information
does not have to be told with a malicious intention
Whether the information given is true or false, the liar intends to deceive or to mislead the person they are lying to.
"The cruellest lies are often told in silence. A man may have sat in a room for hours and not opened his mouth, and yet come out of that room a disloyal friend or a vile calumniator."
RL Stevenson
HAVE YOU MADE A CHARACTER LIE?
All the time. I deal in romance so everyone lies, either to themselves or the one they love at somepoint.
ReplyDeleteI have a mystery going on. There are lies all around. And in another piece I am working on the character will ultimately lie not only to others but to herself. Lies are part of reality- part of life-thus part of writing!
ReplyDeleteHi Anne
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sad (but full of dramatic tensions ;) that the foundations of relationships are often undermined by lies?
Hi Danette
Lying is the fault most people have in common.
