In singing there is pure sound when the voice rings with a single tone. This sounds good, if a little hard on the ears.

Then there are the tonal qualities when chest voice and head voice blend to produce magic. It takes work to learn the skills to produce the depth within a sound, when singing.
The same applies to writing. Power – in writing, and in singing - is not about shouting. It is about control. Depth.
Adele could sing a shopping list and sound mellow and soulful. Like good writing, her craft isn’t about over-emotional delivery. Singing this way - and writing - is about suppression and control.
